Bret Harte Middle School is located in the Dimond/Laurel neighborhood. Students come from a large geographic area, making the student population one of the most ethnically and economically diverse middle schools in Oakland. At Bret Harte, our mission is to provide an orderly, productive, and flexible educational setting in order to produce a positive, nurturing learning environment for all to realize their goals. Bret Harte provides each student with an opportunity to succeed by fostering intellectual and personal growth, creativity and discipline, building on the spirit of tolerance and support to instill cultural and linguistic sensitivity, and engaging students in the process of learning to improve themselves.
